With productivity and retention becoming a crucial concern for organizations universally, employee engagement has taken first place on the agenda of all business leaders.
However, establishing truly valuable employee engagement is no easy act as this should be tailored for everyone. Now, the question is, should the employers take such a huge risk and squeeze out time to foster employee engagement. Probably, the answer is yes.
When an organization has engaged employees, success is easy as the employees will work more and spend time voluntarily. They take initiatives on their own as they feel a sense of objective within their responsibility. Without any further pushing, they add enthusiasm, energy and passion to the role they are assigned.
Engaged workers are more motivated, loyal and committed. All these make them high performers. But, these results come only when an employer can engage with his/her employees and make them feel part and parcel of the organization. Competent and passionate leadership is the key to achieve employee engagement. Show sincere concern in your personnel and invest time to understand their aspirations and needs. This act will send out a message to the team that their support is valued.
Be in touch with them often to know how to enhance their work experience. You need not do it officially; do it informally by being part of a casual conversation or taking part in occasional non-work events. Know what motivates and inspires them by initiating more employee surveys. Try to know how your employees see success through feedbacks. When you know this, creating a winning environment for them becomes easier for you.
A promised route to disengage employees is by letting them feel underused. So, if you want this, you can leave the employees unengaged and make clearer roads for a grand failure.
Always be at the forefront to give them new opportunities and use their skills to the maximum. This act will encourage them to stretch further and improve their skills as well.
Know your employees’ career plan. Check if the current role paves the way towards their goal; if not, do whatever you can to see they achieve their goal. Map a path within the organization that meets your goal and the employees’ goal. After all, an organization’s success is easy when an employee works towards his/her aim that’s also concurrent to the organization’s aim.
Provide development facilities such as training and let them know you are always open and admire individual accomplishments. This simple act will give them job satisfaction and push them to work more.
Efforts, when recognized and rewarded, go a long way in keeping the employees motivated. Regular thanks for their effort will stimulate a feeling of oneness and increase their performance without further need.
Take time to celebrate their achievements and reward them meaningfully if your finances allow you. The reward need not be a big one even a small meal or a small item that can be placed on their desks too is a reward.
Sometimes, a small hike or an incentive can also favour you.
Organizations that understand people are their ultimate resource gain the advantages of engaged employees. It simply means taking into consideration the lives of employees outside the office.
Always be a torchbearer to provide scope for your employees to balance life and work. It can be either flexible work, remote work or hybrid work or whatever way you can.
Advocate and encourage employees to balance their family and work. Fostering a culture where employees feel at home is the easiest way to reach the vision and mission of your company.
